WHAT is Mr. Beals’ On-line English & ACT Prep Workshop?
It is an on-line, 1/2 credit, full-semester English class compressed into a five-week course in which students will…
- gain familiarity with the English, reading, and essay portions of the ACT
- learn ACT test-taking strategies
- maximize their ACT scores
- learn the form and techniques of the persuasive essay
- practice variety in sentence structure
- become better, clearer, more effective writers
- be immersed in the grammar, usage, and mechanics of standard English
WHAT do you mean by ON-LINE?
The content of the course will be delivered through two weekly blog posts. These posts will provide links for the grammar lessons and writing instruction (YouTube videos and PowerPoint slideshows) and instructions for the book and course-pack work. Essay drafts and my feedback on them will be shared through email.
WHAT materials will I need?
You will need a reliable internet connection. I will provide the textbook and course pack.
WHO can take it?
8th grade and up may take the course.
WHEN will the class meet?
Technically, we’ll never meet as a class. I will post lessons to my blog every Tuesday and Thursday morning for the weeks of June 23 through July 21. That’s five weeks and ten posts. There will be weekly due dates for assignments, but because it’s summer, and because vacations trump English class, you will have some flexibility. If you take vacation during class, you may turn in postponed assignments during the two weeks following the close of the course. All work will need to be done by August 16.

Wherever you want. It’s on-line.
HOW MUCH will it cost?
The cost of the course is $250 per student.
